It's been a long week for my Skins after losing a sloppy game against the "now" 1 win Rams. But it's not just my Skins that took a hit, Dallas and the Giants also seemed to get beaten pretty badly. Dallas not only lost to a good Arizona team but they lost Tony Romo for 4 weeks, Adam "Don't call me PACMAN" Jones for 4 games, they lost Terrence Newman for another 4 weeks and their punter broke his foot on the last play of the game. So where does this past weekend leave the division that most people thought was the toughest in the league .....??? The same place it was before, on top. The Cowboys will be alright with Brad Johnson. They also picked up Roy Williams (for a 1st, 3rd and 6th round draft pick ... which is crazy for a guy in the last year of his contract) from Detroit and now will finally have that other threat as wide out. I told people at the beginning of the year that loss of Terry Glenn was worse than people thought and now Jerry Jones finally woke up and saw that. Brad Johnson at the helm will get the ball away faster than Romo, but it will also force them to use the two studs at running back, or should I say one as Felix Jones is banged up as well. All in all the Cowboys will be fine.
As for the Skins this wasn't one of those losses where in the past I just felt that we were not going to recover from. It feels way different than how I felt last year when they just barely won against Arizona and I felt that team was worse than I thought. This was just a case of them beating themselves and losing focus. The defense looks great even though I could go for some more defensive pressure from the front line. Jason Taylor is still hurting and haven't allowed hardly any touchdowns this season. They are ranked 5th in the league. The punter who I have been calling for his head on a tee is finally gone, should have been gone 3 weeks ago. Reed Doughty has been placed on IR; Chris Horton had taken his job anyways, but they bring in Ex-Bear Mike Green and sign him. Because Ledel Betts suffered a sprain they have also aquired Shaun Alexandar; who knows Jim Zorns offense. I must say though I'm kind of surprised at this move. If Ledel Betts is only going to miss 2 games why would you get Alexandar and sign him to the minimum for a year. I'm not saying I don't agree because I don't know what kind of shape Shaun is in, but he's been sitting home for the past 5 weeks, he can't be ready to hit or get hit this week.
The Giants; who I felt was the best team in football up until their demise in Cleveland also took a step backwards and no one knows the severity of Manning's bruised chest. The only team that looked good was Philly and they almost lost to SanFran until pulling away late. The Giants are still going to be alright also even though they got dominated by the Browns. For those who didn't see the game, it was if the Browns were playing against no defense. The G-Men defense didn't have a sack, no turnovers, they didn't even force a punt. I'm still kind of shocked. My friend is in a fantasy football league where this past week was down 1 and he had nobody playing and the other team had the giants defense. The Giants defense played so bad, he end up winning by 6 .... lol. They will be alright though, no major injuries and Plax can practice.
The Eagles are the only team to get a victory for the NFC East this week as they just barely got by the 49ers. The score looked like it was a blowout but it was very close until the end. This was a big game for the Eagles coming off of back to back loses to Chicago and Skins. McNabb was on the air talking about being embarrassed and I figured he's come out to prove something and he did. I think this was a bigger win just for the psyche of the club, knowing they could win without Westbrook. Bulkhalter looked real good and even had stretches where he looked like Westbrook catching the ball and picking up big yards.
So that's the recap for the NFC East after Week 6 and I still think they are the best division in the NFL. I'm looking for guys to do division wrap-ups, so if you are interested, let me know. |
