Great Madden games are everywhere ...

So this weekend I went on a little retreat with some friends and my son to a place where we are supposed to be roughing it, but when Madden is in your life it's hard to go a whole weekend without playing; so you know what happened.
Ok, so maybe we weren't roughing it cause we were on a base in Maryland called Solomon's Naval Recreation Center and staying in apartments. But the trip was just a way to get away from wives and girlfriends and just hang out. I haven't been on this retreat in a year or two so I had no idea that the apartments had TV's, so I brought my little 13 inch TV and my 360. The games I brought was Halo 3, Gears of War, and of course Madden 08.
So my friend Lonnie who still plays the PS2 Madden has never beaten me in Madden. I mean never. We have played maybe 30-40 times and he has never beaten me. C'mon don't act like that, we all have friends that are just not up to our level, or on par with the competition that we play with all the time online. So when he challenged me I of course said yea. Lonnie is an Oakland Raider fan and hardly ever runs the ball. I mean he's just like the owner (who's name escapes me right now) just wants to throw it down the field. Well of course the DB's are so juiced this year, that I have no doubt that I am going to shut him out. So the first game, we play Redskins vs. Raider and I won handidly, in fact it got so bad that I told him that he wouldn't even get past the 50 and when he did on a penalty he was so excited; it was kind of funny. So I beat him 21-0 and he demanded a rematch. I had nothing better to do, so I accepted again. He took the Patriots and I took the Cincinnati Bengals. So, I told him I was going to just run the ball on him and win. So on his first possesion, he got a couple of lucky passes, and then he started running the ball and then a long pass to Moss and a couple of QB sneaks later he was up 7-0. So I was a little worried, but it was still early. I make a couple of drives both resulting in FG's so it was 7-6 him at the half. Remember, I'm just running the ball.
Second half Lonnie starts to milk the clock and who could blame him; this will be his 1st win against me. So let's fast forward to the 4th qtr and he was still winning 7-6 and still running out the clock. I told him it would come back to haunt him, but he wasn't listening. Well I stopped him with 3:00 left in the 4th and I drive down to kick another FG and now I lead 9-7. So now all I need is a stop. It's 2:00 left and he has the ball and suprisingly while I'm picking quarters Dfense and spotlighting Moss, he decides to run the ball and Maroney was running over my guys. Then a quick out to Ben Watson and I was in trouble. He approached FG range and I had basically lost as he was just trying to run out the clock and kick a game winning FG and he did kick the FG with 12 seconds left. I was devastated and he was yelling and clapping, saying stuff like "I should be on the bus". "I beat the Shopmaster, I need to send this in to Madden Nation, so I can be on next season." It was rather sickening and I knew I would not hear the last of this. So he was already to kick it off and I thought to myself, how am I going to pull this off? Maybe he can kick it out of bounds, get it at the 40 and throw a hail mary to Ocho Cinco for 6. Naw, Ashanti Samuels would probably pick it off. Maybe I could run it back, naw kickers kick it to the endzone ..... arggghhh. MaybeI could just cut off the game and say the game isn't final ....... naw, I'm a better sport than that. So he paused and asked me how to do a squib kick and I said that there wan't any but you could kick it low.
Then there was magic ....... he kicked it low and Watson got it at the 30 and I was just trying to get enough yards so that I could heave it to Chad Johnson, so I ran straight and with the speed burst fully locked. I ran into the middle of the pile and hit the highlight stick and just when I thought my man got tackled he came out clean through the other end and I was in the clear. I couldn't believe it! I had one man to beat and he dove and I turned the other way and scored. I dropped the controller and ran around the room as if I had won a Madden Challenge, it was that gratifying and furthermore my winning streak against Lonnie just reached owned status.
So just because you are away on a trip, bring your Madden cause you never know when a good game will happen.

Great story. I've had a couple of barn burners myself lately. Unfortunately I haven't been coming out on the winning side.

LOL... I have a friend and our Madden relationship goes back a LONG, LONG way... When he was just learning Madden I owned him for years. He never won. EVER.
When he did finally win, he jumped around like them dudes on Maury Povich when they find out they aren't the father. LOL
