Tuesday Night Football

Recently I've been trying to organize a weekly night out to play Madden. My reasons were quite selfish. I wanted to play people head-to-head without having anyone come to my house, and without having to feed anyone.
I ran the idea by a friend that owns a bar and grill I frequent near where I work in downtown Raleigh, NC. He was all for it, but he wanted to be sure there weren't any royalties. I researched it a bit and got back to him with a 'no fee' message from EA. A few weeks passed. Then months. I was thinking it wasn't gonna happen...
Then one day, Jimmy says "Bring your stuff."
Looking confused, I asked, "What stuff?"
"The Madden thing," he said. "Just pick a day of the week and you can use a 52" screen."
The timing couldn't have been better. Football season was about to kick off, I was about to release my newest site layout at MaddenUniversity.com, and now I had a 52" screen to play Madden on any night of the week. I chose Tuesday night because the bar is slowest.
On September 11, 2007 at 7PM, we fired up the PS3 for the first game. I played against my best friend in front of a room full of strangers. Nothing went my way. My first 1st down came in the 2nd half after converting a 4th and 3, but even then I lost a fumble. Fumbled punts, poor pass protection... You name it, it happened. 29-0. Luckily, it was before any of the players started showing up. In the second game I was able to exact some revenge with 2 consecutive 17-14 victories.
I got off the sticks for a while so I could have a mushroom and swiss burger. While a few other players got busy. Heck, I even sprung for 3 orders of chicken wings for all the people that supported the event. Later, after a few beers, I lost a squeaker to the Cowboys.
This week will be the 4th week. We are expecting a few more people to come eat, drink, and play (or watch) Madden. I hope to improve on my 3 game win streak... :D
