How passionate are you?

Have you ever known a person so in love with a thing or sport so much that it did not take much for them to be overly critical? This is how I approach Madden, when I was younger, my brother and six cousins got together to play football and video games. When Tecmo was at its peak there was nothing better. We even made "Superbowl" rings for the champion for each season, which always came down to two user controled teams for max excitment. We only finished a few seasons of Tecmo before the world changed, and Madden got big. By Madden 94 it was soooo serious, but as the game got better we got older and you know what happens... life and responsibilities. We began to calm down as a group, but not as fans of the sport or the game. When we all entered adulthood it became nearly impossible to game together, thank God for online. Now bringing this thing full circle I can hear the fire in my cousins voice that is 6 states away now, my bro that is always working is all fired up, I talked 2 of my cousins into getting 360s and even though I am a family man now my wife knows when it is that time(God I love her). This is what we have waited for the chance to play together, the reason I am so critical becomes clear, I am passionate about the game of football in all its forms. I cannot speak for everyone, but for my family Madden is not just a game, so I ask everyone with respect to this great game to believe me when I say; "I LOVE THIS GAME", and anytime I may seem overly critical is due to the love my family and I have for the game of football and Madden. Every year I want this to be the best game ever. So I hope to see many of you this year, thank you Shopmaster for this great site and thank you Madden faithful for loving this game and keeping it going. Here is to hopefully, the best Madden ever!!!!

I was also one of the Tecmo-generation! I think guys from the old days have a different perspective on Madden now. We grew up with videogames and it seemed that every generational change until the recent one brought about revolutionary new gameplay and graphics and realism.
Tecmo Bowl --> Madden (Genesis)
Madden (Genesis) --> NFL Gameday (PS1)
NFL Gameday (PS1) --> NFL 2K (Dreamcast)
NFL 2K (Dreamcast) --> Madden 2003 (PS2)
Even within the Madden series itself, the games on PS2 seemed to iomprove every single year...2001 brought the "next-gen Madden" graphics of the PS2, 2003 brought online play, 2004 brought Playmaker control, 2005 brought Hit Stick, 2006 brought QB Vision....and then....XB360 Madden NFL 2006.
That game was probably the biggest disappointment in gaming since ET for the Atari 2600! EA rushed like hell to get a contractually obligated game to market and the result was a broken, partially finished product that contains some serious issues that have made improving it nearly impossible without scrappping the entire code and starting over again. To be honest, I am quite surprised that EA did not do this with a small team while keeping the main team busy on yearly updates to Madden. If they had made that choice 4 years ago, we would be on the verge of an all-new Madden and something that would have brought the revolutionary "new-ness" back to Madden.
As it is, we have another year of EA desperately trying to polish a turd and make it smell better. They are doing hard work every year trying to make things right, but here we are 5 years into the current generation of Madden on 360/PS3 hardware and we MAY be close to having the game be back to what it was about 2004 or 2005 on LAST GEN!
Last Gen 2003-2006 was serious INNOVATION every year! There was new additions to every game and the graphics got better every time out as well. This Gen 2006 -2010 has been a horror show. The game is getting better, but by "better" that just means closer to its own lost glory. There is no great gameplay innovations on a yearly basis any more. There is no revolutionary change in gaming on PS3 versus PS2...Madden online is still Madden online, the game and graphics have changed, but the play style and nonsense remains oddly familiar.
I am waiting for that next leap forward on Madden...it just has not arrived.
(On a side note, the 2K8 gameplay is incredible in some areas and shoddy as hell in others, but a fusion of everything Madden has done right to date and everything that 2K has done right to date would make for a good starting point for football games on PS3 and 360...if we get something close to that with Madden 10, and then steady improvements every year until 2015 or so, then maybe the "magic" can be back once again...
